How to compress a PDF online

Compress PDF files online for free and make them small enough to email, upload or share. OrbitexPDF reduces PDF file size by resampling the images inside the document - scanned pages, photos and charts - while the text and vector drawings stay exactly as sharp as they were. Pick one of three compression levels, compress up to two PDFs at a time on the free plan, and download a smaller PDF in seconds. No account, no watermark, and no software to install.

  1. Select your PDF

Click Select PDF files, or drop one or two PDFs anywhere on the page. Each file can be up to 20 MB on the free plan.

  2. Choose a compression level

Balanced suits most documents. Pick Smaller file when you need the smallest PDF size for an upload form, or Higher quality for anything you will print.

  3. Compress

Press Compress PDF. The file is processed on our server, and the download button shows the new file size.

  4. Download the smaller PDF

Save the compressed PDF. Uploaded files are deleted as soon as your download is done.

Why compress PDF files with OrbitexPDF

Reduce PDF size without ruining the text

Only images are resampled - to 72, 150 or 300 dpi depending on the level - so words stay crisp and searchable. If compression would make a file bigger, you get the original back instead.

Hit an upload limit

Visa portals, job sites and university forms often cap uploads at 100 KB, 2 MB or 5 MB. Smaller file is the level to try first when a form rejects your PDF.

Make a PDF small enough to email

Gmail and Outlook stop at 20 to 25 MB, and attachments grow by about a third in transit. Compressing scans and photo-heavy PDFs usually brings them well under the limit.

Free, private and quick

Compress PDF online free with no sign-up and no watermark. Files travel over HTTPS and are deleted after download.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a PDF to 100 KB?

Use the Smaller file level first. A scanned page usually ends up between 50 and 150 KB at that level, so a one or two-page scan can get under 100 KB. If it is still too big, remove the pages the form did not ask for with Organize PDF and compress again. A long document cannot always reach 100 KB and stay readable.

Does compressing a PDF reduce its quality?

Images lose some detail - most at Smaller file, very little at Higher quality. Text, lines and vector graphics are not changed at all, so a text-only PDF barely shrinks and never gets blurry.

Why did my PDF not get much smaller?

A PDF that is mostly text or vector drawing has little to compress, because its size is fonts and text rather than images. Compression works best on scanned documents and PDFs full of photos.

Can I compress several PDFs at once?

Yes. The free plan compresses two PDFs at a time, and Pro compresses up to twenty in one go. Each file comes back as its own download.

Is it safe to compress PDF files online?

Files are sent over HTTPS, processed, and deleted as soon as your download finishes. We do not keep copies, and there is no account to create.
