How to convert PDF to Word

Convert PDF to Word online for free and get an editable DOCX document you can change in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. OrbitexPDF rebuilds each page as real Word paragraphs, keeping the text, the fonts and the images where they were. Plain single-column documents come back ready to edit; columns, tables and heavily designed pages may need tidying afterwards. Convert two PDFs at a time on the free plan or twenty on Pro, and on Pro read scanned pages with OCR. No account and no watermark.

  1. Select your PDF

Click Select PDF files or drop one or more PDFs onto the page.

  2. Convert

Press PDF to Word. The pages are rebuilt as an editable Word document on our server. For a scanned PDF, choose OCR first; More options lets you convert only some pages.

  3. Download the DOCX

Save the Word file, or a ZIP when there are several, and open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.

  4. Check the layout

Look over columns, tables and page breaks - the parts a PDF does not describe as a document - and tidy them if needed.

Why convert PDF to Word with OrbitexPDF

An editable Word document

Real paragraphs you can type into, not text boxes pasted over a picture of the page.

Text and images kept

Wording, fonts and images carry over, so a report or letter needs little work before it is editable.

Works with Google Docs

Upload the DOCX to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs - it keeps far more of the layout than opening the PDF there directly.

Free PDF to Word converter

Convert PDF to DOCX free with no account: two files at a time and three Office conversions a day on the free plan. Pro takes twenty files, with no daily limit, and adds OCR for scanned pages.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a PDF to an editable Word document?

Select the PDF, press PDF to Word and download the DOCX. Open it in Word or Google Docs and edit it like any other document.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

Yes, on Pro. A scanned page is a picture of text, so turn on OCR and pick up to three languages the document is written in, from English and Arabic to Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Without OCR a scanned page has no text to convert. PDFs created from a document convert properly either way.

Will the formatting stay the same?

Single-column text, headings and images come through well. A PDF stores positioned text rather than a document structure, so multi-column layouts, complex tables and designed pages usually need some tidying.

How many PDFs can I convert for free?

Three Office conversions a day on the free plan, each with up to two files of 20 MB. Pro removes the daily limit, takes twenty files at a time and raises files to 250 MB.

Should I convert just to fix a typo?

No - for small changes, the PDF editor rewrites text in place and keeps the layout exactly. Convert to Word when the document needs rewriting or restructuring.
