How to split a PDF

Split PDF files online for free: cut a document into page ranges, pull out the pages you need, or break it into parts small enough to send. OrbitexPDF shows every page as a thumbnail, so you can see what each part will hold before you split. Choose custom ranges, a fixed number of pages per file, or single pages, and keep them as separate PDFs or merge them into one. Pages are copied exactly as they are, so nothing is re-rendered and text stays selectable. No account and no watermark.

  1. Select your PDF

Click Select PDF file or drop the document onto the page.

  2. Choose how to split it

Range cuts the document into the ranges you set, Pages pulls out single pages, and Size makes parts no larger than a limit you choose. Each page appears as a thumbnail as you go.

  3. Set the ranges, or pick the pages

In Range, type from and to for each part and press Add range for more; in Fixed, say how many pages each file should hold. In Pages, click the pages you want or type them, for example 1, 5-6.

  4. Split and download

Press Split PDF and download the new files. The upload is deleted once you have them.

Why split PDF files with OrbitexPDF

Extract pages from a PDF

Send only the pages someone needs - page 12 of a lease, the six pages of a board pack that are yours - instead of the whole document.

Separate PDF pages into individual files

Turn a scanned batch into one PDF per page, ready to file or rename.

Split a PDF by page range

Set as many ranges as you need, reorder them, and get exactly those parts back. Tick the merge box and they come back as one PDF, in the order you arranged.

Split a PDF by file size

Say the biggest a part may be, in KB or MB, and the document is cut into parts under it - the way to get a large PDF past an upload limit. Pages keep their original resolution, fonts and size.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract pages from a PDF?

Open the Pages tab, choose Select pages, then click the pages you want or type them, for example 2, 5-8. Each page comes back as its own PDF; tick the merge box to get them as one.

How do I split a PDF into multiple files?

Use Range and add one range per file you want, or Fixed to cut the document every few pages, or Pages to give every page its own PDF. Several files come back together in one ZIP.

Does splitting a PDF change the quality?

No. Pages are copied, not re-rendered, so images, fonts and text are exactly as they were in the original.

How do I split a PDF into parts of a certain size?

Open the Size tab, set the biggest a part may be in KB or MB, and leave compression on if the parts may be re-encoded to fit. Splitting by size is part of Pro.

Is Split PDF free?

Yes. Splitting by range and by page is free for files up to 20 MB, with no account. Pro raises the limit to 250 MB a file and adds splitting by file size.
