Why we built OrbitexPDF

August 20264 min read

Most file utilities feel like a maze. We set out to put every PDF workflow in one calm, trustworthy product.

Almost every free file tool on the web works the same way. You search for the thing you need, land on a page covered in adverts, upload your document, and hope. Somewhere in the small print there is usually a sentence about how long your file is kept, and it is rarely the sentence you wanted to read.

OrbitexPDF started from the opposite end: decide what happens to the file first, then build the tools around that decision.

Nothing is stored

Your upload lives on our server for exactly as long as the job needs it. The moment processing finishes, the input is deleted. The result is yours for thirty minutes, and it is deleted as soon as you have downloaded it. A cleanup process sweeps every minute for anything that slipped through.

This is why there is no file history and no cloud drive here. Those features are pleasant, and they require keeping your documents. We would rather not have them.

One job at a time

Our worker processes a single file at a time, by choice rather than by limitation. Converting a document with LibreOffice can take about a gigabyte of memory, and running several at once is how a small server starts failing in ways that are hard to explain to the person waiting.

When the queue is busy you see your position in it. A number that moves is more honest than a spinner that does not.

No account required

Every tool works without signing up. An account exists so you can come back to the same settings and so we can support you if something breaks - it is not a gate in front of the product, and anonymous use is not a lesser tier.

Every PDF task, one product

Merging, splitting, compressing and converting a document are the same kind of request, and they usually live in separate products with separate interfaces to learn. They should not look like different websites. So this site does one file type and does all of it.
